Create a Legacy for Austin’s Music Legends

When you include HOME in your estate plans, you help ensure that the musicians who built Austin’s sound can continue to age with dignity, stability, and care.

Your planned gift supports HOME’s mission to provide housing assistance and essential services for aging musicians and entertainers in Central Texas. These gifts help preserve more than individual homes. They help protect the cultural legacy, stories, songs, and spirit that make Austin Austin.

Planned gifts can support housing assistance, emergency grants, case management, benefits navigation, and long-term stability for the artists who gave so much to our community.

Why Planned Giving Matters

Planned giving helps ensure HOME can continue serving Austin’s aging musicians for generations to come. Your thoughtful support:

  • Helps aging musicians remain safely housed
  • Provides emergency assistance during moments of crisis
  • Supports case management, benefits navigation, and essential services
  • Strengthens HOME’s long-term sustainability
  • Offers potential tax-advantaged planning for you and your family

Qualified Charitable Distributions (IRA Giving)

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to HOME. This type of gift is sometimes referred to as an IRA Charitable Rollover.

A QCD allows eligible donors to support HOME while potentially reducing taxable income.

To qualify, the distribution must be made directly from your IRA administrator to HOME. Your IRA custodian may require specific forms or instructions to complete the transfer, so we recommend contacting them directly and consulting your tax advisor before making your gift.

Ways to Give

There are many ways to make a planned gift, and we are happy to help you explore options that align with your personal, financial, and philanthropic goals.

Donor Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund allows individuals to make charitable contributions and receive an immediate tax deduction. The funds are managed by a DAF sponsor, and donors can recommend grants to their preferred nonprofit organizations over time. DAFs provide a flexible and tax-efficient way to support the causes that matter most to you while helping HOME keep Austin’s music legends housed, healthy, and connected.

If you have a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), recommending a grant to HOME is a meaningful way to support aging musicians, housing stability, and Austin’s cultural legacy. Your generosity helps provide monthly housing assistance, emergency grants, case management, and essential support services for musicians who spent their lives shaping the sound of Central Texas.

Most donor-advised fund providers offer an online portal where you can search for HOME by name and EIN to initiate your gift.

Please note the purpose of your gift if you would like your contribution directed toward a specific initiative, such as:

  • Housing Assistance
  • Emergency Grants
  • Case Management Program
  • General Operating Support
Because some DAF grants arrive without donor contact information, we encourage you to notify us of your gift so we can properly acknowledge your generosity and ensure your contribution is directed as intended.

Bequests

A bequest is one of the simplest ways to make a lasting gift to HOME. By including HOME in your will or living trust, you can help ensure that future generations of aging musicians have access to housing support and essential services.

We are happy to work with you and your attorney to ensure your planned gift reflects your wishes. Sharing sample bequest language with your attorney is a great place to begin and helps ensure your intent to support HOME is clearly documented.

Sample Bequest Language

“I give to Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers, a nonprofit organization located in Austin, Texas, Tax ID 46-0580743, the sum of $____ or ____% of my estate, to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Retirement Assets

There can be meaningful advantages to naming HOME as a beneficiary of your IRA, retirement plan, or investment account.

Because HOME is a nonprofit organization, it does not pay income taxes on distributions it receives. This means the full value of your gift can be directed toward supporting aging musicians and preserving Austin’s musical legacy. While the value of assets designated to HOME may be included in your gross estate, your estate may receive a charitable tax deduction that can help offset estate taxes.

Designating HOME as a beneficiary is typically a simple process. In most cases, you can complete a beneficiary designation form through your employer, financial institution, or plan administrator.

You will need HOME’s legal name, mailing address, and Tax ID number:

Legal Name: Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers
Mailing Address: 6800 West Gate Blvd., Ste. 132-237, Austin, TX 78745-9997
Tax ID / EIN: 46-0580743

Insurance & Investment Accounts

As a qualified nonprofit organization under IRS section 501(c)(3), HOME can receive gifts from life insurance policies and investment accounts.

Naming HOME as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, brokerage account, or other financial account is a meaningful way to support musicians who helped build Austin’s cultural identity. These gifts can be simple to arrange and may allow you to make a larger impact than you could through an annual gift alone.

When completing your beneficiary designation, you will need:

Legal Name: Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers
Mailing Address: 6800 West Gate Blvd., Ste. 132-237, Austin, TX 78745-9997
Tax ID / EIN: 46-0580743

A Note About Planning: HOME does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. We encourage you to consult your attorney, financial advisor, or tax professional to determine the best planned giving option for your personal circumstances.
